Inspiration: Tokyo Rose

I've been tagged by Raquel of So Trendy!

The Rules: "List 7 songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, wether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your summer. Post these instructions with your 7 songs, then tag 7 people to see what they're listening to.”

1. Why do you let me stay here? By She & Him
As I've said, I love Zooey Deschanel. This song is so fun and perfect! Its just a great song to put on wen I just need music.

2. Viva La Vida by Coldplay
...who isn't listening to this song? I love Coldplay and this song is so great! I am so jealous, my older brother and his wife got tickets to one of their concerts soon!

3. Pork and Beans by Weezer
Again, a popular choice right now. I'm such a sucker for any Weezer song, and I love this one. Sadly, this is the only one I really loved off of their new cd. But I always listen to some of their older stuff

4. Almost Lover by A Fine Frenzy
I first heard this song at a dance show at my school. It's so pretty and wonderful! I love singing songs like this (yes, I sing..im a theater geek) And as a singer, I always appreciate when artists have genuinely good voices, instead of half the people who call themselves singers..

5. Silver Lining by Rilo Kiley
I don't think I'll ever get tired of this song!

6. Australia by The Shins
I love love love The Shins! Such a great song!

7. Breakable by Ingrid Michaelson
Gosh, all her songs are SO pretty

Wow, its pretty hard to only include 7 songs! I also would have put Wilco, the White Stripes, Feist, and many more! Only a couple of my songs are new, but I love all the other ones that I've just never stopped playing them!

I'm not going to tag anyone because it seems like almost everyone and her brother have done this, but if you haven't feel free to do it! or tell me and I'll tag you so don't feel bad! :D

Mall Rat

Sorry for the lack of posting! I've been having blogger's block! So Wednesday was a fun mall trip! Tried on tons of clothes and I didn't even find a dress! Some just weren't right, most mostly they didn't have my size! i tried on the PERFECT dress at forever! BUT it was too big, and it was a noticeable big! So I bought accessories instead! Oh and skirt! I got a pair of heels, a bow headband, white knee socks, and A PAIR OF FAKE GLASSES! ..which are basically the coolest thing I have ever bought! Luckily Alena let me borrow a few dresses for my cruise, which I will put to good use! But we had a ton of fun, and I got to see Michelle for a little while before she had to go, but it was still really good to see the two of them! But we missed Jessica a lot!
I've finally been enjoying summer! I saw Wall.E with my friend yesterday, which has got to be the cutest movie ever! And today I hung out with some of my friends and had a great time. I got to see a few that I hadn't seen since school let out, and we made mii's and went swimming. And a few of us got new nicknames..I am now Sugar Packet, apparently. (I'm sorry..In case you haven't noticed, I ramble a LOT)
OH GOOD NEWS: monday the four of us (Alena, Michelle, Jessica, and I) are going to go to the Goodwill (turns out there is one really close to my dad's restaurant!)! I'm excited! And then we are going to watch Audrey movies, because, well...she's amazing.

what I wore to the mall:
(I think this vest is lucky or something...one time I was wearing it with a high waisted white skirt, black tank, belt, and flats while shopping and a Norstrom sales lady came up to me and said "Sorry, I just really wanted to tell you that you look so cute!" And while Alena and I were in Aldo (I had to pass up a great pair of heels because I know my parents would kill me if I spent $50 this close to vacation) and one of the sales ladies asked me before I was about to leave where I got my belt. And then I started chatting with two of them about the fashion from the SATC movie)
striped vest: Orange County Swapmeet; white tee: H&M; gray dress:f21; studded belt:brothers; sandals (not shown): Target

Alena's H&M dress with my new accessories:

Alena's new gladiator sandals from Nordstrom (forgot brand!)

Summer O' Fun

summer is FINALLY getting exciting! Today I went and grabbed coffee with two of my guy friends (wink michelle, alena, and jessica) and then we went and played Wii at one of their houses. Tomorrow I am going shopping with Alena and Michelle. Jessica would be there too but sadly she cannot because of her recent knee surgery :[.

Tomorrow the real reason I am going to the mall is because I need a semi-formal dress for formal night on the EUROPEAN CRUISE I am going on next week! (it will be my first time in europe and i am exceptionally excited in case you couldn't tell!) Unfortunately, I am making ANOTHER trip to forever 21...I know, I know I have a PROBLEM! But I need to go the mall because my brother needs to shop too so my dad can drop us off at the same place, and until I can drive (two more months, two more months) I cannot get to any thrift stores. But you better believe that as soon as I CAN drive, the first thing I am doing is finding a thrift store nearby and going shopping!

I looked at the forever website to find some options, what do you think? I'm tight on money so I'd rather buy one that I can dress down to wear on a day-to-day basis.

I think this one might be the winner, because it seems the most versatile:
I have been dying for something floral, and this one is cute. I am planning on buying a pair of knee socks tomorrow, so I could definitely use them to play this up:
I have also been dying for something fringe: This one is a lot similar:
I tried on these two last time. I liked both of them, but not enough to buy them:

From far away, this kind of reminded me of something Rodarte would do.. But a closer look and turns out its just striped linen, not knit...

Also, I can't help but post some of the most OBVIOUS knockoffs ever:

Miu Miu-
Marni-
And seriously, I could not stop laughing when I saw these...I think its also funny, because to people who don't have "fashion minds" the Chloe heels are a little strange so to abercrombie wearing girls who stumble into forever, well, I really wish I knew what they were thinking
(i promise, I wont come back with these! i dont have a problem with knock-offs, but these just...wow... i think I would feel like I was betraying Chloe or something...)

Ah..two more months of Forever and H&M days...then its all vintage from there!

oh one last thing: I really want to try a Karla's Closet tomorrow, and try on some men's clothes. To get into the Vatican in Italy, I need to wear something past the knees, so I want to get a pair of men's pants and roll them up!

Ok expect some pictures tomorrow!

"Where are you headed in life?"

So last night I had one in a series of long talks with my mom about what I am going to do with my life, and how on earth am I going to get there? This talk was a little different from the rest, though. Normally we are both frustrated because I'm not giving good enough answers to her questions and she's asking questions that I have no idea the answer to yet. But last night we both had some revelations. You see, I am GOING to work in the fashion industry (or so I tell myself) and my mom keeps asking me how I am going to do that, but the trouble is: I have no idea. And I keep telling her and myself that "Well, I still have time; I don't have to have it all figured out now." But I'm going to be a junior this year, so I really should start figuring out which college I want to go to, and what to major in.

For the longest time I had my heart set on New York. I was going to go to college there and find a job there, no matter how many times my mom told me how impossible that would be. So finally last night I came to terms that there is NO way I will be able to afford out-of-state tuition. And there are some opportunities here in CA, so I can start out here and move to NY one day when I get on my feet.

And my mom admitted that she's scared. She told me that the fashion industry is foreign territory to her and its something that she can't help me much with. But she can help me figure out everything else, like money and college, and where I am going to live. She also finally admitted what I have been suspecting all along: she wants me to write. I love journalism, and I am actuallly pretty good at it (not like you can tell from this blog, I am so lazy at writing when it comes to posts.) So I might consider writing for a magazine. What I've always wanted to do was styling and stuff like that.

But really, I hardly no anything about what it takes to make it in the industry. Like you the title "fashion editor" but what does that really imply? There are so many jobs in the industry, but what are they??? I need help! I have two years to figure this out...might as well start now.

I promise I'll post some more fashion related posts (as opposed to my life goals). I think I'm going to go get coffee soon so I should probably get ready...or distract myself with reading fashion blogs..either one works.

Completely Unnecessary

I want to be dork! Well..I already am, but that's beside the point!

I am desperate for a pair of fake over-sized glasses. I first loved the look in the Luella s/s 08 show, and have continued to see them on bloggers and in stores.

Yesterday I was playing Rockband with my brother (proving my point that, yes, I am a dork) and was fooling around with my character's clothes. I gave her over sized glasses. The entire time we were playing (I was the singer :P) he kept saying "Oh my gosh Elana, your person looks so wierd with those glasses" or "Wow, you are SO dorky!" But I kept responding "Ah! I look SO cool!"
I love these huge dorky ones from Nasty Gal Vintage for $30

I found a bunch at urbanoutfitters.com, like these ones for $14
These for $18
and these for $20
These ones from F21 are $5.80

And of course, the lovely Luella ones for $175
I am going to the mall on wednsday and I seriously might buy the forever 21 ones...or maybe not if parents kill me for wasting my money, since I am already planning on buying a pair of knee socks...

Stud Muffin

I finally have a studded belt in my possession! I was talking with my brother and mention something about studs, to which he said "Seriously, I think studs on girls are wierd! " I was a little offended considering how badly I wanted a belt, so I replied "Well..I think they're cool on belts and shoes" Luckily, he agreed. "Oh, well they're cool on belts." So I told him how I had been seeing on them on girls and really wanted one and to my surprise he said "I have an old one you could use...here, I'll go get it." !!! So he handed me this studded belt that he's probably had since he was 10, but it's perfect! Well...I do have to turn the buckle to the side, because there aren't any studs where the buckle is, but that's all right!

My parents are having a poker party right now to raise money for the walk my mom is doing for Breast Cancer, and this is what I was going to wear tonight. But it ended up being a lot more casual and I just stayed in the H&M dress I was already wearing. I don't have a full length mirror, so I don't have a full length picture. I really do have a problem though. Almost all my clothes are from H&M and F21... And even though I realize that I continue to shop there. My birthday is next month and from my family I'm planning on asking for gift cards to Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, and Nine West... And if I'm really lucky, I can convince someone to take me vintage shopping!

Vest: H&M; Tank: Old Navy; Skirt: F21; Belt: brother's

I am currently hiding from my parent's friends and trying to do something instead of standing there with my brothers and sister-in-laws all wanting to be somewhere else. None of us can play poker because whoever wins gets $100 and my mom wants the money to go to someone else other than her or her kids. ..And there's a $50 buy in. But its all for charity! So I'll probably write a few posts to make myself busy.

Phillip Lim does LA

This past week Phillip Lim opened a new store in LA! I have been wanting to do some LA window shopping soon, but haven't gotten the chance. Maybe when I get my license. I haven't been in over a year. Last I went I did The Beverly Center, Fred Segal, Rodeo Drive,(all window shopping!) and of course cupcakes at Sprinkle (seriously, best cupcakes in the world). Phillip Lim's new store looks so clean and chic and I really want to check it out. I really wish he would open some boutiques. It would be great if he had a store in the high end mall thats not too far from me.

Withdrawls

I miss The Office...

Bad..

In case you haven't noticed I added an Office Quote box to my blog, so that way I can see new quotes whenever I want. Its really not possible to be in a bad mood when watching the office!

I know this is a fashion blog, but whatever...By the way, I am a total tv junkie. One of the very few things I don't like about the summer... At least I get to watch some of the only reality shows I will watch like Last Comic Standing and So You think you can Dance.

I think I'm going to get some people together for an Office marathon next week or something, because luckily I'm not the only one who obsesses over the show!

I really want to get an Office tee. I used to hate t-shirts with a passion, but they have been growing on me...
